There are two main types of solar schemes in Pakistan:

  1. Subsidy Schemes for Homes and Businesses:
  • These schemes provide financial assistance to individuals and businesses wishing to install solar panels.
  • Example: Chief Minister Punjab Solar Scheme or Punjab Roshan Gharana Program, aiming to install solar home systems for up to 50,000 homes.
  • The program offers free solar panels to those who use up to 200 units of electricity and subsidized panels (with 10% down payment and 90% financed by the government) to those who use up to 500 units.

Assalam Alaikum viewers, a few weeks ago, the government promised to provide free solar panels to the public. The registration process has now begun under the “Screen Lights Scheme,” offering two ways to register.

Registration Methods:

  1. SMS Registration:
  • Text your name, CNIC number, and electricity consignment number to 8800.
  • Wait for a confirmation message and follow any further instructions provided.
  1. Online Registration:
  • Visit the official portal and complete the registration form.
  • Ensure you have your original ID card and electricity consignment details ready.

Scheme Benefits and Conditions

  • This scheme aims to help poor households reduce their electricity expenses by using solar systems.
  • Eligibility is based on your household’s electricity bill.

Registration Requirements:

  • Original ID card.
  • Electricity consignment bill in your name.

8800 Free Solar Apply: Eligibility and Subsidies

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Free Solar System:
  • Households with electricity consumption of less than 200 units per month will receive a dedicated solar system free of charge.
  1. Subsidized Solar System:
  • Households using up to 500 units will get a 75% discount on solar systems. For example, if a solar system costs 20,000 rupees, the government will pay 15,000 rupees, and the household will pay 5,000 rupees.
  1. Interest-Free Loan:
  • Households using more than 500 units can avail of an interest-free loan to install solar systems, which they will repay to the government.

Registration Process:

  1. Gather Required Documents:
  • Ensure the electricity bill is in the name of the person registering.
  • Have the ID card and electricity bill ready.
  1. Send SMS:
  • Write your name, CNIC number, and the reference number of your electricity bill.
  • Send the message to 8800 using your personal SIM.

Verification and Installation:

  • After registration, the government will check the monthly electricity consumption and financial conditions of your household.
  • Eligible households will receive solar systems in September and October.
